The subject of Japanese gardening is far broader than most Westerners imagine.  It includes everything from rocks to philosophy.  Many Japanese Garden Journal readers are particularly interested in just one or two topics, like "plants" or "design."  We hope to satisfy their interests, of course, but we also wish to broaden the discussion by publishing articles on a wide variety of topics.

Some of the most common article topics include:

Japanese garden design principles
Japanese architecture
Water gardening and Koi-related topics
Basic and advanced pruning techniques
Japanese garden plants and ornaments
Stone setting and other rock-related articles
Carpentry and fence building
Japanese garden myths
Japanese culture and history
Book and public garden reviews
Tools, tips and techniques
How to create a Japanese feel in YOUR garden!

In addition to these topics, we also include regular features such as our Q&A section, a Calendar of Events, the Japanese Garden Marketplace, and Leadership Profiles.
