Details:The purplish, foxglove-like flowers appear in upright, conical clusters. A very fast growing tree, Paulownia trees were traditionally planted at the birth of a baby girl and would grow in time to be used for making a dowry chest of drawers. (its wood is moth resistant, has a beautiful blue cast and does not warp easily in the humid climate).
The tree was mentioned in the Tale of Genji and it is present in both Japan and China but its original habitat is not known.
