tea gardens of various periods beginning in the Momoyama
Permission required from Omote Senke to visit the gardens
Added to JGarden:
Omote Senke represents one of the lineages of tea ceremony and traces itself back to Sen no Rikyu (1520-1591). Rikyu's grandson, Sotan, divided the Sen house among three sons, each founding a school (Ura, Omote, Mushanokoji). The grounds of the Omote Senke school include several fine tea houses and gardens.
I shall go behind the mountain.
Go there too, O moon,
Night after night we shall keep each other company.
