GARDEN of the MONTH:
This is the twentieth in the series of photos of North
American gardens. This month we cross back to the west, to the Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California.
The Hakone Gardens are said to be the oldest Japanese-style residential gardens in the Western Hemisphere--eighteen acres of magnificent beauty nestled in the verdant hills of Saratoga

JGARDEN NEWS
JGarden at Int'l Symposium - JGarden.org sent a staff person to the
recent 4th Int'l Japanese Garden Symposium. It was a busy few days in Seattle, but a lot of
great information came out of it. You can see the report we prepared at
http://www.jgarden.org/features.asp?ID=83
as well as notes for Day 1 and
Day 3.
Garden Plants of Japan Released - There has not been a
comprehensive English-language book on the Garden Plants of Japan
since the 1963 book by Kitamura Fumio and Ishizu Yurio. Levy-Yamamori
and Taaffe have worked for 8 years to develop a high-quality and
encyclopedic book that will set a new standard and become an
important part of the bookshelf of every Japanese garden enthusiast.

More Images for JGarden - We've received some new imagery from Sadafumi Uchiyama for
Chicago's Osaka Garden in Jackson Park, where he is currently working through a multi-year renovation
project. We also got a stack from Christian Alsen on the Japanese garden in Karlsruhe, Germany, a photo
of the Holland Park garden in London from Nick Silva, and a couple from Joy Okazaki of the
gate dedication ceremony at the Kubota Garden in Seattle.
Looking for a Designer or Maintenance professional? - JGarden.org lists more than 100 Japanese garden design professionals and we add
more each month. Many of these designers also provide construction services. You can find a list at http://www.jgarden.org/des
